Learn from Our Excellent Faculty

Many instructors in the Scott College of Business are practicing CPAs or have worked as CPAs earlier in their careers. Small class sizes allow them to provide personalized instruction, and they will share networking opportunities and advice and insight from their personal experiences in the profession.

Your instructors will also encourage you to participate in activities and organizations such as Indiana State’s chapters of the Beta Alpha Psi and Delta Sigma Pi Honorary Societies. In these organizations, students attend conferences and workshops. In addition, instructors will assist you in finding internships and other out-of-classroom experiences, many of which have led to post-graduation jobs.

Develop Skills in the Meis Student Development Center

You will learn valuable business skills in the Meis Student Development Center, an organization that helps students develop skills necessary for successful careers. The Center presents professional development workshops, guest speakers, and other campus events. You can have your resume or cover letter reviewed by a mentor, or talk to someone about your career ambitions.

What You'll Learn in the Accounting Program

The accounting bachelor’s degree offers the opportunity to study accounting information systems, auditing, data analytics in accounting, financial and management accounting, nonprofit accounting, fraud examination, and taxation.

The accounting program concludes with a senior business experience – a capstone course in the Scott College of Business and an upper-division elective foundational course. Focusing on the theory and practice of strategic management, project completion demonstrates skills in the functional areas of business.

Career Possibilities for Accounting Majors

Accounting majors at Indiana State are prepared for careers as CPAs or for other careers in accounting. Many of our graduates serve as auditors, budget officers, controllers, cost accountants, systems analysts, and tax accountants for private businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Others work for governmental agencies, including the FBI, the IRS, and state departments of revenue and auditing agencies.
