Understand Money
Finance professionals manage the fiscal health and wealth of individuals, businesses and corporations, and shareholders. As a finance major at Indiana State, you will prepare for careers with commercial banks, credit unions, savings and loans, insurance companies, and investment firms.
In this program, you will learn about business sales and analysis, cash inflows and outflows, dividends, and how to decide credit terms. And you will learn to access and analyze financial data using the latest tools and technology.

Instructors in the Scott College of Business are qualified financial professionals. Our small class sizes allow professors to provide personalized feedback and mentorship. Coursework combines classroom instruction with practical, hands-on learning experiences that provide the latest training in finance, economics, and investment principles and strategies.
Finance faculty will assist you in securing internships and other out-of-classroom learning opportunities, which may lead to post-graduation job offers.
Connect Through Experience
The Scott College of Business provides opportunities for you to practice what you learn and to network with finance professionals.
Members of the Investment Club invest in equities and fixed income from Indiana State’s Student Managed Investment Fund. The Financial Management Association and the Financial Planning Association sponsor field trips, guest speakers, and professional social activities.
Other activities include annual visits to financial markets in Chicago, Illinois, and participation in Financial Planning Day in Indianapolis. Finance majors also may be invited to join the business honorary fraternity, Beta Gamma Sigma, or the two professional business fraternities, Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Psi.
Train in the Financial Trading Room
Indiana State’s financial trading room is a laboratory space where students and faculty research business firms and security pricing trades, and develop investment portfolios.
The trading room features multiple stock tickers and three video data walls with dynamic financial information from Rise Vision, along with 24 student trading workstations that have access to professional financial databases.
What You'll Learn in the Finance Program
The Finance BS educates you in the financial and legal dimensions of business planning. Coursework includes business finance; business statistics; business information tools; accounting; management information systems; legal environment and business; and business forecasting and analytics.
The program concludes with a senior business experience – a capstone course in the Scott College of Business and an upper-division elective foundational course. Focusing on the theory and practice of strategic management, the project demonstrates your skills in the functional areas of business and financing.
In addition to your core classes, you will select a finance concentration.
Finance Concentrations
Understand the financial needs and interests of businesses, non-profit organizations, and individual investors. Study money and banking, principles of investments, financial management, security analysis, and portfolio management. This concentration helps you prepare for the Chartered Financial Analyst [CFA] exam.

Indiana State University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities within the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States. Credit also may be granted for military training and experience. Previously earned college credit can be applied toward completion of the program per Indiana State's transfer guidelines.

Indiana State’s Finance BS is excellent preparation for certification and/or licensure in specified areas of the financial sector and for advanced study in finance or business.
