Why Complete the Pre-Law Program at Indiana State?
If your educational and career goals include attending law school and becoming a practicing attorney, then Indiana State’s Pre-Law Program is a great first step. Alternative career pathways in government and the private sector are also common routes for those with a juris doctorate degree.
Working with a Pre-Law advisor, Pre-Law students receive the grounding in the necessary disciplines and coursework to follow their law school application plans. Students may select from a wide array of majors as part of the Pre-Law program.
Build a Foundation for Career Success
Upon admission to Indiana State, you will be assigned a pre-professional advisor who will help you develop a strategy for completing prerequisites, identifying an appropriate departmental major (degree program), and navigating the law school application process.
During your second or third semester of study, you will select a major. A faculty advisor is then assigned to help you develop a plan to meet the degree requirements for that major. Special emphasis is placed on selecting coursework that focuses on developing the core skills and values recommended by the American Bar Association.
Advisement for Pre-Law students is located within the Legal Studies program in the Department of Political Science. Pre-Law students need not be Legal Studies or Political Science students to pursue this pre-professional track. Students may declare any major and pursue Pre-Law studies.
Transfer Credit
Indiana State University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities within the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States. Credit also may be granted for military training and experience. Previously earned college credit can be applied toward completion of the program per Indiana State's transfer guidelines.

The Pre-Law study track prepares students to pass the LSAT and succeed in law school. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for attorneys is expected to grow 8% from 2021 to 2031, faster than the national average. (http://www.bls.gov/ooh/legal/lawyers.htm)
